Here’s a disturbing quote from Toby Gerhart in response to the assertion that it’s weird that he is a white running back:
“I’m a physical runner, but I can give a little wiggle, too. I just want the opportunity to play in the NFL.”
I’m glad that he’s humble, but look at the first part of his quote. He says he’s a physical runner (true), but that he can give it a little wiggle. Huh? Does he not understand that no matter what he does he’s gonna be done when he’s 30? When running backs hit 30 they go downhill. Don’t believe me? Just ask LaDainian Tomlinson!
Toby Gerhart should just say he’s a physical runner and stop the questions and the second-guessing. There’s no reason in the world for him to think that he’s need to wiggle anything in order to play in the NFL. Reggie Bush is going to make $8 million this year, but he’ll NEVER score a touchdown down in the redzone when it counts. Toby Gerhart will score 50 before he retires.
This guy can be John Riggins 2.0 if he’ll just stay true to himself. I hope all the hype doesn’t go to his head and he decides to give up something that made a legitimate contender for the Heisman this season. You know, when it ain’t broke…don’t fix it.
I also hope that the right team picks him up. A team that already has an established back is going to try to make him into a fullback and limit his touches. Didn’t anyone see how many games Jim Harbaugh accounted to this kid this season? He’s a game-changer WITHOUT mechanical issues. Someone like the Colts could remake their offense in Peyton’s late years AND get him to 40 without being dead if they ran Gerhart the way they should.
I hope he falls that far!
