OT Changes Get Jeff Fisher’s Support

Here’s what I don’t understand.  How does it make sense to change the rules in overtime in the NFL.   Plus, how does it make sense for Jeff Fisher to support new overtime rules when all that does is throw a monkey in the wrench?  I know we’re all just reacting to the Packers/Cardinals game in the playoffs, but you know what?  It happens.  (This is a family blog so I’ll go easy on the language :)

The Packers got unlucky and the Cardinals got lucky.  Oh well.  As much as it sucks for the Packers it could have easily happened the other way.  What if that Aaron Rodgers was about to throw went for a TD?  Would we be having this conversation?  Would we be talking about it then?  Two things are going on here:

1.  The Packers are getting their butts kissed by the league

and

2.  We’re going to try to legislate good luck.

Do we realize that the possession rules in college football require you to be equally lucky?  Look at the Miami/Ohio State National Title Game.  OSU had to be lucky enough to get the interference call and Miami had to be unlucky enough to have the best QB in the country NOT be able to snake one into the endzone.

So, in legislating good luck we’re making games potentially longer and further confusing players and coaches who already have a hard enough time with the rules.

Let’s keep the rules the same–not because we don’t like change–but because it ain’t broke.  You know how that saying goes.

Roger Goodell wants to be everyman’s Commissioner.  He wants to crack down on hoodlums and kiss Owner-butt.  He can’t have it both ways and I hope he learns that before he screws up the game any more.
