We aren’t talking about pocket change anymore…
Aaron Kampman is going to solve SOME pass rush problems in Jacksonville now that he’s getting $11 million guaranteed and a 4-year contract. I was a little shocked when i saw that he was leaving Green Bay considering how well the team had played and how much chemistry there seemed to be on the Packer defense. Actually, I’m still a little shocked…I don’t think I can tlak myself out of this.
Apparently, this “uncapped” season is going to throw some teams into disarray. It’s one thing to have people “here and there” moving from team to team, but when a defensive beat like Kampman leaves a beastly defense like the one in Green Bay you have to start asking questions.
Is it all about the money? Is it all about the guarantee? Is it even REMOTELY about winning? I’m not sure where the honor went in football, but I really thought some teams–like the Packers–could hold on to it.
Now, this is not to say that Aaron Kampman is a dishonorable human being because I think he’s just following the money-hungry crowd to the bank. However, when is this going to end?
Just imagine the scenario:
The owners pay way too much money to a bunch of guys this offseason and then complain about it during negotiations with the player’s union. Now I see why the outlook was so bleak coming from the players. On one hand, they kind of have to get their money. On the other hand they need to keep themselves from getting locked out.
Would I put it past the owners to complain later after overpaying a whole bunch of dudes in an uncapped season? Nope.
Do I think this is the beginning of the end? Nope.
The beginning of the end is when the players start complaining after they just got overpaid and antagonize the owners in the process. Then it’ll get ugly.
