I Think Derek Anderson Will Start in Arizona

This is where Leinart should be…on the sideline.

Derek Anderson said:

“It was understood to me that I was going to be the No. 2 and come in and compete and do what I’ve done over my career.  I am coming into camp and everything like that, and I’ve gone into every training camp I have been involved in thinking I am going to play and get better. Obviously, my job will be to push Matt and make him better, too.”

The sentence Derek left out was:

“Until this kid starts sucking again and then I’ll have to mop up after him just like I did in Cleveland for Brady Quinn and look where THAT got me.”

I thought–reasonably so–that Derek Anderson would have a really good shot at starting for Arizona.  I think we’ve seen this story before.

Remember, Cards sign Kurt Warner–they think he’s serviceable–he can help Leinart get better–Leinart starts sucking–Warner’s in–Cards go to Super Bowl.

Now, I don’t think that Derek Anderson will necessarily lead the Cardinals back to the Super Bowl, but we’ve played this game already.  Bringing in someone to help Matt Leinart when maybe he just doesn’t translate to the NFL.

Honestly, that’s a shame because I like Matt Leinart and I want to see him in his USC/Heisman winner form, but that probably isn’t gonna happen.  Ever.

It just doesn’t look good for him right now and while I applaud Ken Whisenhunt’s loyalty to this kid I have to say that loyalty has gotten:

Bobby Bowden, Chan Gailey, and Mike Nolan fired recently.  AND it’s got Bobby Cox sitting in Atlanta with only one World Series title.  Meanwhile, Joe Torre has 4.  Jimmy Johnson won 2 Super Bowls and drafted the ‘95 winner in Dallas.  The Patriots have won 3 Super Bowls.  What have the Cardinals done?

They improved, but they aren’t that good and loyalty doesn’t always work out in pro sports.  Why?  Because these athletes are millionaires and you can’t feel bad for them.

Please Ken, get it together before you get yourself fired for no reason.
