I Love Marty Gilyard’s Honesty

Marty Gilyard basically ran the Cincinnati offense this past season with Tony Pike and now he’s at the Indy Combine being completely honest about who he is and who he was.  It’s fun to read HONEST quotes from a kid who knows he wasn’t the greatest kid when he was younger and accepts that that was a problem back then.

Apparently, he ended up homeless for a time and lived out of his car.  He worked his way back into school and headlined a powerful offense that took the nation by storm this season.  He’s fast, he’s tough, and he minced NO words when Brian Kelly left the Cincy team hanging after their banquet when he went to ND.

If you watch him run you might almost say that he runs “angry” even though he probably runs too fast to garner that description.  He says he has speed and good hands, but I don’t think that’s all.

On a team where the QB is not the strongest player on the offense you might find someone like Marty Gilyard emotionally leading the team while the QB runs the offense.  Can’t you just see this dude getting in people’s faces on the sideline and keeping the dream alive?

He’s an impressive player who deserves more than a second look.  A team like my 49ers could use him over that loser Crabtree.  A team like the Falcons could use him as the #2 and keep Michael Jenkins in the slot.  A team like the Colts could just make him into the next Hall of Fame receiver on their roster.

Either way, he’s going to be an impact player.  How can you see such great talent AND perserverance in one package and think he will be anything but a smashing success?

Marty Gilyard for MVP!
