Once again, this seems unfair and the Jets are supplanting the Patriots as the smartest team in Football. They’ve got LaDainian Tomlinson visiting them and instead of an “in and out” thing they got him to go to dinner AND stay overnight. How else is this going to turn out?
Nothing is official as of 8 a.m. EST on Saturday March 13, but I don’t how we’re going to get anything but a confirmation that the Jets and LDT came to an agreement. If this happens then the Jets’ backfield would basically get unstoppable.
We already know that Shonn Greene can run straight out of the backfield AND pound the ball if he needs to. Now he’s got a 3rd down back and that 3rd-Downer is LaDainian Tomlinson. You know, once was the MVP, sure to go into the Hall of Fame LDT? Yeah, that’s kinda unfair.
If they are able to sign LDT then the offense in New York would have multiple Pro Bowl linemen, Dustin Keller at Tight End (who’s really just a big receiver), LDT on 3rd Down, Shonn Greene taking the ball 30 times a game, Braylon Edwards running post routes all day, and an experienced Mark Sanchez.
Oh, did I mention that Shonn Greene won’t have to catch any passes out of the backfield because LDT can do that too? Yeah, you see the unfair thing there.
They’ll have, in essence, a Running Back, a Fullback, and a Halfback who catches passes. That’s sick! If I’m betting I’m betting on the Jets for next season. Every time they make a move it feels and looks like the right one. They’re surpassing their division and the rest of the AFC. Plus, the best part is that they aren’t bankrupting themselves…they’re just constructing a great team.
Good job Rex and company.
