Ever since Kurt Warner announced his retirement after the end of the 2009 season, the Arizona Cardinals have been searching for a quarterback. They have been courting two QB contenders – San Diego Chargers‘ Charlie Whitehurst and former Cleveland Brown Derek Anderson. Anderson was released from the Browns earlier this month, and Whitehurst is a restricted free agent.

Word has it that Arizona has extended an offer to Whitehurst. Seattle has extended an offer to him as well.  Signing Whitehurst would cost the Cardinals a third round draft pick. Not sure what the Seahawks would be giving up if they sign Whitehurst, since they don’t have a third round pick to trade.

My beloved 49ers traded Shaun Hill to the Lions for a 2011 draft pick.  I can live with the picks, I mean, who doesn’t want more picks?  I’m just having a hard time understanding why David Carr is a better answer for this team when we still don’t know:

1.  If Alex Smith can play in the NFL

2.  If Alex Smith can succeed in the NFL

3.  If the 49ers offense can thrive under Alex Smith

or

4.  If David Carr can still play

The skies are gonna get grayer if they pick the wrong dude…

Chan Gailey and the Buffalo Bills are hinting at a “competition” for the starting Quarterback job this upcoming season.  I figure most teams that aren’t holding onto a franchise Quarterback are going to have said competition every year.  However, this is different.

Chan said:

“We’re trying to leave no stone unturned.  Unless something different happens between now and post-draft, to me it’s an open competition for the job and we’ll see what happens. … We’ve got to see who can rise to the top.”

This is where Leinart should be…on the sideline.

Derek Anderson said:

“It was understood to me that I was going to be the No. 2 and come in and compete and do what I’ve done over my career.  I am coming into camp and everything like that, and I’ve gone into every training camp I have been involved in thinking I am going to play and get better. Obviously, my job will be to push Matt and make him better, too.”

The sentence Derek left out was:

It just isn’t the same now…

The New England Patriots have come to terms with Alge Crumpler on a contract.  That sounds great, but they let Ben Watson get away and now they have to settle for Crumpler.  It’s not that I don’t like Alge, but…

When he was with the Falcons he did ALOT of good stuff.  He caught the ball, he blocked well, he was a great offensive weapon.  However, when injuries started to plague him then the Falcons decided to cut-bait and let him go to Tennessee where he started about half of their games while he was there.

Here’s what I don’t understand.  How does it make sense to change the rules in overtime in the NFL.   Plus, how does it make sense for Jeff Fisher to support new overtime rules when all that does is throw a monkey in the wrench?  I know we’re all just reacting to the Packers/Cardinals game in the playoffs, but you know what?  It happens.  (This is a family blog so I’ll go easy on the language :)

Chad Henne isn’t super-fond of Tim Tebow as a Quarterback prospect, but I think he told the wrong people his opinion.  In the media we’ve got some people who are ready to pounce and force anyone to retract or backtrack on something they said.  Personally, I think we forgot about the whole “It’s a free country” thing.  It’s not going to hurt if the defacto starting Quarterback of a marginal playoff contender in the NFL says that someone who is going to have to scrap their way into the 2nd or 3rd Round isn’t ready to play in the NFL.

Brett Favre

I don’t think Brett’s huge head is looming over Minnesota like last year…

Brad Childress hasn’t talked with Brett Favre recently and doesn’t plan to visit him anytime soon.  This has all the inklings of another long and drawn-out process to see if Brett Favre will play next season.  For me though, I can kind of live with it because Childress is involved–even if he seems like Favre’s man-servant.

The Dog Pound might need a rabies shot…

Is the next move to dump Brady Quinn?  Even better (pardon me while I massage my temples to ward off the impending headache I’m getting from reading even the mere thought of this)…

Jake Delhomme is talking to the Cleveland Browns.  I’m getting a little nauseous thinking about it.  Seriously?

Let’s look at a timeline:

Draft Day 2007:  Brady Quinn sits with his cute girlfriend in the green room and doesn’t get drafted in the top 10 like we thought.

Tomlinson warming up

Once again, this seems unfair and the Jets are supplanting the Patriots as the smartest team in Football.  They’ve got LaDainian Tomlinson visiting them and instead of an “in and out” thing they got him to go to dinner AND stay overnight.  How else is this going to turn out?

Nothing is official as of 8 a.m. EST on Saturday March 13, but I don’t how we’re going to get anything but a confirmation that the Jets and LDT came to an agreement.  If this happens then the Jets’ backfield would basically get unstoppable.
